If you’re thinking of replacing your home’s windows, there are a few things you should know. Whether you’re updating your home’s look, want to save on energy costs, or simply need repairs, your window crew possesses the experience needed to ensure a quality installation.
You should, however, think about the process of replacement itself. Even if you’ve hired a professional to do the job, you’ll still need to prepare your home for their arrival. To make the installation as quick and painless as possible, you’ll want to do the following:
Remove the Window Treatments
You’ll need to remove the curtains, blinds, and sheers. Contact your contractor beforehand, and ask them which removals will help. Sometimes, only the treatments need to be removed. Sometimes, a window’s extra hardware needs to be removed as well.
Move the Furniture
You should move any chairs, couches, and tables near the windows, too. When your contractor arrives, they’ll need an easy access point for installation. If you have any window decorations, pictures, or wall decorations, remove them as well. If your windows are being installed on the second floor, make sure your lawn is clear of any furniture or decorations.
Cover the Surrounding Floor
Next, you should cover the surrounding floor. Window replacement is dirty work, and your contractors might need some extra support throughout the installation process. Even if you’ve moved the furniture, you should toss a cover over it as well. Again, contact your contractors first. There’s a good chance they can suggest a good covering material.
Lift the Shutters
Even if your home isn’t boarded up for a storm, you should still make sure its shutters are as upright as possible. When working from the outside, contractors need total access to a window’s upper framework. If your shutters aren’t completely out of the way, they can get in the way.
Your contractor team can, of course, help you with these preparations. It’s just a good idea to handle them before they arrive. The prep work can take as little as 15 minutes per window, and it can save a lot of time, energy and cleanup work in the long run. If you have any questions, contact Anderson Exteriors today.
